If you have the brief, we have the solution
A full service team of specialists, built to deliver
Ranking well gets someone to your site. What happens after that, whether they trust you enough to get in touch, is a separate problem entirely, and one a lot of SEO work ignores. We think about both together, because a top ranking that doesn’t convert is wasted effort, and conversion-focused pages that never rank are invisible.
That means content gets written to do two jobs at once: satisfy what search engines need to understand and rank it, and genuinely persuade the person reading it. Getting both right at the same time is harder than optimising for just one, but it’s the only version that actually grows a business.

Who we work with
Meet your SEO agency near Guildford
Some agencies treat ranking and converting as entirely separate disciplines, handled by different people who never really talk. We build both into the same strategy from the outset, because a page written purely to rank often reads poorly, and a page written purely to convert sometimes misses the structure search engines need.
- Technical SEO — Fix the foundations so rankings actually work.
- On-page SEO — Content that ranks for what people search.
- Local SEO — Show up in local searches that matter.
- AI SEO — Stay ahead of where search is going.
- Account setup and reporting — See what's working. Monthly, clear, honest.

What our clients say
Businesses we've helped grow.
In their own words.
Great work is built on strong relationships and open collaboration. Over the years we’ve worked with businesses across a range of industries, and here’s what some of them have to say about partnering with us.
After 13+ years running a complex business, restaurant, live music and takeaways, we refreshed our website. Unlike my previous designer, Clever Marketing understood my business model first, then designed something that goes above and beyond.
Have enjoyed working with Clever Marketing on the the design and build of our new website, and digital marketing. From the creative to the technical, they are an impressive team and, crucially, a pleasure to deal with day-to-day. Would use them again.
Having worked with Harry and the team for many years now, we always know that we can reach out with a project and get a quick response and a great piece of work. Everyone is so friendly and eager to help. Matched with competitive pricing its hard to see a reason to not rate them highly.
I worked with Clever Marketing on a website for a unique audience. The team were always available to discuss and amend, bringing expertise to guide what best suited our audience. A pleasure to work with, and we’d recommend them.
Clever Marketing came highly recommended for our new multi-site website. Despite the complexity, they made it seamless, exceeded expectations and even helped with branding. Now working together on digital marketing.
We’ve partnered with Clever Marketing for almost 10 months, using their Google PPC campaigns for our recruitment business, and they’ve exceeded expectations, consistently high-quality enquiries, backed by thorough monthly reports.

The Clever way
Built around your business, not a generic process
A strategy that only tracks rankings can look successful while quietly failing your business. We build in proper measurement of what actually happens after someone lands on a page.
Step 1
Discovery & research
We run a full audit covering technical health, existing content, backlink profile and current visibility across standard and AI search, alongside a look at how your existing pages are performing in terms of actual enquiries, not just traffic.
Step 2
Design &
development
From the audit, we build a prioritised plan: technical fixes, content written to both rank and convert, and structured data that helps search engines and AI tools understand your business properly.
Step 3
Delivery & results
We report on rankings and traffic, but weight enquiries and conversions just as heavily, since that’s the number that actually reflects whether the strategy is working for your business rather than just for a search engine.
FAQs about our website design & development services
The questions worth asking before you commit.
What's the difference between SEO, technical SEO, local SEO and AI SEO, and how do you keep up with Google's changes?
SEO is the umbrella term for getting found in search. Technical SEO is the behind the scenes health of your site, speed, structure and whether search engines can actually crawl and read it. Local SEO is about showing up for people searching near you, through your Google Business Profile, listings and maps results. AI SEO is the newer one, making sure your business gets mentioned when people ask AI tools and answer engines questions rather than typing a search into Google. More people are starting there now, so if competitors show up and you don’t, that’s ground lost quietly. We treat all four as one strategy rather than separate jobs, and we stay on top of changes by following Google’s own guidance and testing things ourselves across the sites we work on, not by repeating industry gossip.
How long does SEO take to show results, and do you guarantee first page rankings?
Honestly, longer than most agencies admit up front. Early technical fixes can bring quick wins, but proper movement in rankings and enquiries usually takes three to six months, sometimes more in a competitive market. We’ll give you a realistic timeline for your actual market rather than a sales pitch. On guarantees, no, we don’t promise first page rankings, and any agency that does is telling you what you want to hear rather than the truth, since nobody can guarantee a specific Google position. What we can promise is a properly resourced strategy and honest reporting on what it’s achieving. If you’ve been hit by an update and rankings have dropped, we’ll check whether it’s genuinely algorithm related, then build a recovery plan, though there’s rarely a quick fix once that’s confirmed.
Can SEO work alongside paid advertising, and do we still need it if we're already ranking on page one?
Yes, and we’d actually recommend running both. Paid gives you visibility straight away while SEO builds it over time, and when we manage both together, the keyword and audience data from one feeds the other, which makes your budget work harder overall. The difference is that organic results appear because Google judges them relevant, you don’t pay for the click, while paid results are there because someone bid for that spot. And yes, ongoing SEO still matters even if you’re ranking well already, because those positions aren’t fixed. Competitors keep investing, Google keeps updating its algorithm, and a page one spot left unattended tends to slip. Ongoing work also uncovers new opportunities your site isn’t capturing yet, which is often where the real gains are hiding.
What's involved in a technical audit, how much does page speed matter, and what would you fix first on most sites?
A technical audit looks at how fast your site loads, whether search engines can crawl and index it properly, how it’s structured, and whether hidden errors are quietly stopping it from ranking. If you’ve never had one, or it’s been over a year, it’s a good place to start, since problems found here tend to be the quickest to fix and the quickest to show results. Page speed matters a lot too, Google has been clear it’s a ranking factor since Core Web Vitals arrived, and a slow site loses visitors before they’ve even seen what you offer. As for what we’d fix first, usually it’s one of three things, broken conversion tracking, missing or duplicated page titles, or a site structure that hides your most important pages from search engines.
How does Google decide which sites to rank, and where do backlinks and things like page structure fit in?
Google uses hundreds of signals, but they mostly boil down to relevance, authority and technical quality. Relevance means your content actually answers the search. Authority comes from other credible sites linking to yours and your site’s general reputation. Technical quality is how well the site is built and how good it feels to use. Backlinks remain one of the strongest authority signals, though quality matters far more than quantity, one link from a reputable site beats dozens from low grade directories, and anything promising hundreds of links fast will likely cause harm later. Then there’s what happens on your own pages, titles, headings, content, internal links and speed, versus factors outside your site like those backlinks. Both need attention, ignoring either one leaves something significant on the table.
What does keyword research actually involve, how do you measure whether SEO is working, and does a blog help?
Keyword research means working out what people are genuinely typing into search, which is often quite different from what you’d assume. We look at search volumes, competition and how intent shifts across different phrases, focusing on searches likely to bring real enquiries rather than just traffic, and that shapes everything from page structure to content priorities. We measure success through organic traffic, ranking movement, and most importantly actual enquiries and sales coming from search, since rankings alone aren’t the goal, a position three page that converts beats a position one page that nobody buys from. A blog can genuinely help if it answers real questions your customers search for, building authority and new routes into your site. A blog full of generic posts nobody’s searching for just adds upkeep without doing much good.
What's the risk with cheap SEO, can you help with content too, what about duplicate content, and what happens if we redesign the site?
Cheap SEO usually means shortcuts, automated links, spun content or stuffed keywords, all things Google actively penalises, and recovering from a penalty costs far more time and money than doing it properly from the start. We handle content and technical work together rather than as separate jobs, the content plan comes straight out of the keyword research, so pages are built with solid foundations already in place. Duplicate content is more common than people think, especially on online shops with multiple product versions, and we deal with it through canonical tags plus a proper audit. And a redesign is one of the most common causes of a ranking drop, usually from broken redirects or lost content, so bring us in before it starts rather than after the damage is done.
How do you get us ranking locally, and can you look after our Google Business Profile for us?
Yes, that’s exactly what local SEO covers, and it’s a core part of what we do. We handle your Google Business Profile directly, get you listed properly across the sites that matter and build your content so search engines understand where you operate and who you’re trying to reach. That side of things matters just as much as your general rankings, maybe more, if most of your customers live nearby. Your Google Business Profile is that listing that pops up when someone searches for your type of business on Maps or in local results, and for a lot of local businesses it’s honestly worth more day to day than where the website itself ranks, simply because it shows up before the normal search results even load. We keep it accurate, updated and properly maintained as part of the ongoing work, since that’s one of the cheapest and most effective things we can do for a client’s visibility, and it’s usually one of the first things we sort when we take on a new account.
The next step
It’s time to be more clever with your marketing.
Are you ready for a clear-eyed look at where you are, what’s possible, and what a structured plan to get there would look like for your marketing to help you grow? The first conversation costs nothing and comes with no obligation to work together. If there’s a fit, we’ll both know it quickly.
On our discovery call we’ll cover:
- Where you want the business to be in the next 12 to 24 months and what your website needs to do to support that
- An honest view of how well your current site is serving your commercial goals
- What a new site would look like, what it would involve, and what to expect at every stage
You’ll leave with a clear view of the next steps, whether that’s working with us or not.
