Ecommerce Website Design & Development
Your online store should be your best salesperson. Let’s make it work like one.
The traffic is there. The products are good. But something in the experience is losing people before they buy. Slow checkouts, confusing navigation and a mobile experience that doesn’t quite work will cost you sales you should be making.
We build ecommerce websites around how your customers actually shop. Every step designed to reduce friction and give people the confidence to complete their purchase.
Our Approach to Ecommerce Website Design
A great ecommerce site earns trust quickly and makes buying effortless.
The difference between an ecommerce site that converts and one that doesn’t is rarely the product itself. It’s about whether the experience you’ve built gives people the confidence to buy and removes every unnecessary obstacle between interest and purchase.
1. Built around how your customers make buying decisions.
You get a site designed around the way your specific customers shop: how they browse, what reassures them, what makes them hesitate, and what nudges them over the line. That thinking informs every page, every navigation decision, and every product page layout.
2. On a platform that fits how you actually run your business.
We work with WooCommerce, choosing the platform that’s right for your product range, your team, your growth plans and not just the one that’s easiest for us to build on.
3. Search-ready and marketing-ready from day one.
Your ecommerce site needs to be found before it can sell. You get clean technical foundations, properly structured product data, and a site built to support the SEO and paid advertising activity that drives traffic to it.
Benefits of a Well-Built Ecommerce Website
When your online store is working properly, the results show up in your revenue.
Higher conversion rates from the same traffic.
A better-designed checkout, clearer product pages, and a more confident mobile experience can significantly increase the percentage of visitors who buy. For most ecommerce businesses, improving conversion rate is more cost-effective than spending more on advertising.
A platform that grows with your business.
Whether you’re adding new product lines, integrating with a new fulfilment system, or scaling into new markets, you get a site built to expand without needing to start from scratch every time.
An experience that builds repeat customers.
Customers who have a smooth, satisfying buying experience come back. A well-built ecommerce site isn’t just about the first sale. It’s about creating an experience that encourages people to buy again and recommend you to others.

Our Ecommerce Website Development Process
You’ll always know where you are and what’s happening next.
Here’s what an ecommerce project looks like from first conversation to launch and beyond.
Stage One
Discovery & Requirements
We understand your business, your customers, and your goals before anything is designed.
Who your customers are and how they shop, what your competitors are doing well, what the site needs to achieve for your business. That thinking shapes every decision that follows.
Stage Two
UX & Design
Wireframes first. Visual design second. Nothing built until the structure is agreed.
You see how the site will work before it’s designed, and how it looks before it’s built. Approvals at each stage mean no surprises and no expensive changes late in the project.
Stage Three
Development & Integration
Development against the agreed designs, with all integrations connected and tested.
Products loaded, payment flows tested, mobile experience verified. Everything working before anything goes live.
Stage Four
Launch & Handover
Launched properly. Handed over completely.
Every page, form, and journey tested before launch. Full training provided. Documentation delivered. And we stay available after launch so nothing is left unresolved.

Is your current ecommerce site performing as well as it could? We’ll take a look.
If your online store is live but not converting the way you’d hoped, a structured review gives you a clear picture of why.
Step 1 – What we look at
Conversion rate benchmarked against your sector. Mobile experience and page speed. Checkout flow and product page quality. SEO foundations and any obvious technical issues.
Step 2 – What you get back
A plain English summary of findings, ranked by commercial impact. Useful whether you go on to work with us or not.
Step 3 – What it costs
Nothing. The review is yours to keep and act on however you choose. If you’d like to talk through the findings, we’re available, but there’s no obligation attached.

What our clients say
Businesses we've helped grow.
In their own words.
We’ve worked with businesses across a whole range of industries over the years. Here’s what some of them have to say about working with us.
Clever Marketing balanced what the brand needed with what I, personally, wanted to say. They listened, then pushed back where it improved things. The result exceeded my expectations, came in on time and on budget, and is already delivering results. Even the college alpacas behaved on camera. A pleasure to work with, and it shows in the final product.
I’ve worked with Clever Marketing for the past few years. Brian Woodcock and his team designed and developed our Flyertech website, making the process easy from start to delivery. No hesitation recommending them.
After 13+ years running a complex business, restaurant, live music and takeaways, we refreshed our website. Unlike my previous designer, Clever Marketing understood my business model first, then designed something that goes above and beyond.
Have enjoyed working with Clever Marketing on the the design and build of our new website, and digital marketing. From the creative to the technical, they are an impressive team and, crucially, a pleasure to deal with day-to-day. Would use them again.
Having worked with Harry and the team for many years now, we always know that we can reach out with a project and get a quick response and a great piece of work. Everyone is so friendly and eager to help. Matched with competitive pricing its hard to see a reason to not rate them highly.
I worked with Clever Marketing on a website for a unique audience. The team were always available to discuss and amend, bringing expertise to guide what best suited our audience. A pleasure to work with, and we’d recommend them.
Clever Marketing came highly recommended for our new multi-site website. Despite the complexity, they made it seamless, exceeded expectations and even helped with branding. Now working together on digital marketing.
Wren Sterling has worked with Clever Marketing since 2016, covering website builds, hosting, design and other projects. The team are responsive, commercial and pragmatic, working to tight briefs or solving problems creatively, so you feel in control and well advised.
We’ve worked with Clever Marketing for the past few months, with Brian and Harry designing our website and content. From start to delivery, they made it easy and helped our site stand out. No hesitation recommending them.
Brian was helpful & knowledgeable and his team produced an excellent website for us. We are very pleased with the outcome and would recommed Clever Marketing to anyone looking for a new site or a re-vamp of their existing one.
Clever Marketing are the most pleasant, flexible and supportive digital agency I’ve used. Knowledgeable and relentless, they research your competitors and build websites with a real edge. Always recommend them for value for money.
Harry and Nico provided amazing support with the marketing tech integration. They not only provided a solution to a problem but also walked me through their methodology. I would highly recommend using the ‘Clever’ agency in the future.
Clever Marketing come highly recommended. From print and collateral to an SEO audit and full website overhaul, they delivered outstanding results, grasping the defence sector’s technical nuances while meeting tight deadlines.
Ecommerce Website FAQs
The questions worth asking before you commit.
How much will an ecommerce website cost?
A well-built ecommerce site for an established business is a bigger investment than an off-the-shelf template, reflecting the platform, integrations and design work involved. The final cost depends on scope, and you’ll always get a clear, fixed quote before any work begins, no surprises at invoice.
How long will it take?
Most projects run between 8 and 14 weeks. Scope and content are the main variables. Providing product data and copy early in the process is the single biggest thing you can do to keep a project on track.
Can you migrate our existing ecommerce store?
Yes. Product data, order history, customer records, and URL structures can all be migrated. We plan migrations carefully to protect your SEO and ensure nothing is lost in the process.
Will you help with SEO after launch?
The build includes strong SEO foundations. For ongoing SEO (content, link building, technical maintenance) that’s a separate programme of work which we can run alongside the site. We’ll always be clear about what the build achieves on its own versus what needs further investment.
The next step
